I think of crossdressing as a type of roleplaying, a temporary portrayal of another gender -- sometimes a very exaggerated version of it. Most crossdressers are cisgender, and that tends to be pretty different from transpeople exploring gender identity and expression. The messed-up issues between crossdressers and transfolk due to gatekeeping manipulations are a whole different kettle of very pickled fish.
